On Friday, February 28th, the Katlo Development Centre took its mission to the heart of the community by hosting a powerful awareness campaign at Hebron Mall. This vibrant and impactful outreach event formed part of Katlo’s continued efforts to empower and educate the public on key social issues affecting the North West Province.

Promoting the Vision of Katlo
The campaign served as a platform to introduce and reinforce what Katlo Development Centre stands for—supporting families and transforming communities, one step at a time. As a vital partner in the implementation of the North West Department of Social Development’s Social Behavior Change Programmes (SBC), Katlo is at the forefront of driving meaningful change through education, awareness, and community engagement.
Through direct interaction with shoppers and community members at Hebron Mall, the Katlo team shared valuable information about the organization’s role in supporting the government’s developmental goals, particularly around behavior change in youth and families.
Key Themes: Safe Sex, HIV/AIDS Prevention, and GBV Awareness
A central part of the campaign focused on encouraging responsible sexual behavior among the community. The team emphasized the importance of practicing safe sex through consistent condom use, and also encouraged abstinence as a preventive measure to reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS.

In addition, Katlo used the opportunity to highlight the urgent need to combat Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF). Through open dialogue, informative pamphlets, and engaging one-on-one discussions, the organization encouraged community members to become active participants in fighting GBV, advocating for safer, more respectful relationships in every household.
A Community-Centered Approach
The event was a strong reminder that community transformation starts with awareness. With every person who stopped by the booth, asked a question, or took a pamphlet, Katlo Development Centre moved one step closer to realizing its vision of building stronger, healthier, and safer communities.
Katlo remains committed to working hand in hand with government departments, local leaders, and everyday citizens to create an environment where positive behavior change is possible—and sustainable.
Together, we can change communities—one family at a time.
